Country Ambassador Aislinn - Canberra, Australia
Who is Aislinn?
My name is Aislinn, and I am 22 years old and live in Canberra, Australia. I study Political Science and International Relations at the Australian National University and am passionate about gender equality and female empowerment. I am to start a career as a consultant to create a better world and implement meaningful change.
Who is an inspiration of yours?
All women inspire me, especially women who are trailblazers in their field! This is because they become role models for girls and women through exposure and innovation, making it incrementally more accessible for other women to follow in their footsteps.
For example, Madame C.J. Walker created her hair care line for Black women and became the first female self-made millionaire in the United States.
Or Kathrine Switzer in 1967, who was the first woman to run the Boston Marathon, despite attempts at being forcibly removed by men around her. Julia Gillard, the first Australian Prime Minister, overcame many barriers for women in politics and was subjected to undue scrutiny from the media.
Ultimately, women are unstoppable. Having so many inspiring women to look up to motivates me to be the most confident, uncompromising and authentic version of myself.
What change do you wish to see in your community/country?
I hope to see girls and women empowered to make decisions with agency and confidence. I hope that women can do whatever it is they desire and be their authentic selves. Ultimately, I hope to see better resources, social infrastructure and change in attitudes and norms where girls and women can reach their goals!
Where should we eat if we come to your community?
It would have to be Grease Monkeys’ - their Nimbin burger and jalapeno poppers are divine!
💛
